There are some stories that remind you just how much love a little life can hold. Some stories carry pieces of the past, dreams for the future, unexpected turns, and a kind of joy that changes everything. Sterling’s story is one of those stories.

As a Northern Colorado newborn photographer, I get to witness families in one of the most tender seasons of their lives. Those first few weeks are filled with tiny fingers, sleepy snuggles, endless laundry, and a love that somehow grows bigger with every passing day. But tucked into every newborn session is something even more meaningful: a story that deserves to be remembered.

Sterling’s story is filled with family, legacy, resilience, and two parents who are already discovering just how much their little boy has to teach them.

And I am so honored to share a little piece of it.

A Name That Carries Love Across Generations

Some names are chosen because they sound beautiful. Others are chosen because they carry a story that matters.

Sterling’s name is both.

His parents chose his first name to honor his uncle, a baby who was stillborn. In doing so, they wanted to honor his grandparents and acknowledge the little life their family lost. His middle name comes from his papa—his dad’s middle name, passed down to another generation.

What a beautiful way to connect the past with the future.

Sterling arrived into a family that already had a place for him, not only in their arms but in a much bigger family story. His name carries remembrance, love, and a connection between generations that will continue long after these newborn days have passed.

There is something incredibly moving about knowing that even before Sterling could understand the meaning of his name, he was already part of a story of love that stretched far beyond himself.

One day, he will grow old enough to ask about his name. He will learn about the family members who came before him, the little uncle he was named after, and the papa whose middle name he carries. He will learn that his name was chosen with intention and that his life is part of a story worth telling.

And someday, when he looks back at his newborn photographs, I hope he sees just how deeply loved he was from the very beginning.

“I Love My Nana and Papa” — The Sweetest Pregnancy Announcement

Before Sterling was here, before the newborn cuddles and the sleepless nights, there was the moment his parents got to share the news that their family was growing.

They wrapped up a little onesie that read, “I love my Nana and Papa,” and gave it to their parents alongside a positive pregnancy test.

I can only imagine the emotions that came with opening that gift and realizing what it meant.

Sometimes the most meaningful announcements aren't elaborate surprises or perfectly planned reveals. Sometimes they are a tiny onesie, a positive test, and the realization that someone you love is about to become a grandparent.

That little onesie was a glimpse into a future that would soon be filled with new traditions, family gatherings, tiny outfits, and a little boy who would change everyone's world.

And now, here they are, with Sterling in their arms.

The same family who once opened a gift announcing his arrival now gets to hold him, love him, and begin making memories that will become part of their family's story for generations.

A Little Boy Who Couldn't Wait to Meet His Family

If Sterling's arrival taught his parents anything, it was that this little guy was ready to make his entrance!

His birth happened so quickly that the doctor barely had time to get a gown and gloves on. Apparently, Sterling had places to be and people to meet!

And as if his speedy arrival wasn't surprising enough, he came into the world with a full head of hair that caught everyone off guard.

I love these little details because they become the stories families tell over and over again. The stories that come out at birthday parties, family dinners, and eventually when Sterling is old enough to hear just how eager he was to meet everyone.

One day, he will probably roll his eyes as his parents tell him how quickly he arrived and how much hair he had. But right now, those details are part of the beautiful beginning of his life.

These are exactly the kinds of moments I want families to remember when they choose newborn photography in Greeley, Fort Collins, or anywhere throughout Northern Colorado. Not just what their baby looked like, but the little things that made their arrival uniquely theirs.

The stories that make you smile years later.

The details that time might otherwise blur.

The memories that become part of your family's history.

Pickle Cravings, Tiny Cheeks, and a Perfect Mix of Mom and Dad

Every pregnancy has its own little quirks, and Sterling's mama definitely had a theme when it came to cravings!

Pickle-flavored everything was the answer. At one point, she was drinking straight pickle juice and eating pickle chips.

Honestly, pregnancy cravings deserve their own chapter in every baby book!

Now that Sterling is here, his parents see a little bit of both of themselves in him. He has mama's nose and Mario's mouth and cheeks—a sweet little combination of the two people who love him most.

There is something so special about those early days of studying your baby's face, looking for familiar features, and wondering who he will look like as he grows.

Will he keep mama's nose? Will those cheeks stay just as sweet? Will his smile remind everyone of his dad?

Those tiny features change so quickly. The newborn nose, the round cheeks, the little mouth that makes the sweetest expressions—all of it belongs to a season that passes far too fast.

As a newborn photographer serving Greeley and Fort Collins, I love preserving those details for parents. One day, these photographs will be more than beautiful images. They will be a way to look back and remember exactly how tiny Sterling was, how he fit into his parents' arms, and how much of both of them could be found in his little face.

Becoming Parents Has Made Them Fall Even More in Love

When I asked Sterling's parents what their favorite part of parenthood has been so far, their answer was one of my favorites.

They shared that they have loved discovering how good they are as a team and falling even more in love with each other.

And, of course, they cannot get enough of Sterling's cuddles. He brings endless amounts of joy into their lives.

Isn't that one of the most beautiful parts of becoming parents?

You spend so much time preparing for a baby—choosing names, setting up a nursery, imagining what life will look like, and wondering who this little person will become. But sometimes the biggest surprise is discovering what parenthood reveals about the two of you.

The teamwork.

The quiet sacrifices.

The way you learn to communicate through exhaustion.

The way one of you reaches for the baby while the other prepares a bottle, folds another load of laundry, or simply makes sure the other has eaten something that day.

And somewhere in the middle of all that, you find yourselves falling in love in a completely new way.

Sterling is already bringing so much joy into their family, and his parents are learning that they are capable of more than they may have realized before he arrived.

They are finding their rhythm together, one cuddle and one long day at a time.

The Beautiful, Messy Reality of Newborn Days

Of course, parenthood isn't all sleepy baby snuggles and beautiful nursery photographs.

When asked what surprised them most, Sterling's parents had a very relatable answer: everything takes so much time!

Getting out the door feels like running a marathon, and the laundry seems never-ending.

If you are a parent, you probably just laughed in recognition.

How can one tiny human create so much laundry? Why does leaving the house require approximately seventeen separate steps? And how can something as simple as running an errand suddenly feel like an entire day's accomplishment?

The newborn season is beautiful, but it is also exhausting. It is learning how to function on less sleep, figuring out a new routine, and discovering that your old definition of productivity has changed completely.

Sometimes a successful day means everyone is fed, the baby is cuddled, and you managed to get out of your pajamas.

And that is enough.

Because these days, as messy and overwhelming as they can feel, are also filled with moments you will wish you could hold onto a little longer.

The sleepy stretches.

The way your baby settles against your chest.

The tiny sounds they make while dreaming.

The weight of them in your arms before they grow into a toddler who would rather run than cuddle.

This is why newborn photography matters so much to me. You don't have to have everything figured out. Your home doesn't have to be perfect, and you certainly don't have to feel like you have mastered parenthood.

You just have to show up and love your baby.

The photographs will help you remember the rest.

Sterling's Journey: A Diagnosis That Changed Their Perspective

Sterling's story also includes a moment that brought unexpected emotions and a journey his parents hadn't anticipated.

At 26 weeks into the pregnancy, they learned that Sterling had Trisomy 21, also known as Down syndrome.

It was a shock at first, and they needed time to process the news. Like so many parents facing unexpected information during pregnancy, they had questions, emotions, and a new reality to navigate.

But as they shared their experience, one thing became clear: their love for Sterling was never something that needed to be earned or proven.

They quickly began to recognize what an amazing, tough little boy they had been blessed with.

They believe they are the perfect parents for him, and even in his first few weeks of life, Sterling has already taught them so much.

They are excited to watch him grow, discover his interests, celebrate his milestones, and see all the things he is capable of accomplishing.

And I think that is such a beautiful reminder of what parenthood really is.

We can spend months imagining what our children’s lives will look like. We create plans, picture milestones, and dream about the people they will become. But every child arrives as their own person, with a story that belongs uniquely to them.

Sterling's diagnosis is one part of his story, but it is not the whole story.

He is a son, a grandson, and a beloved little boy with a name rich in family history. He is the baby who arrived in a hurry, surprised everyone with his full head of hair, and already has two parents who cannot get enough of his cuddles.

He is a little boy with a future full of possibilities and a family cheering him on.

He deserves to have every part of his life celebrated—not only the milestones that may look different from what his parents first imagined, but also the ordinary, everyday moments that make up a childhood.

The giggles.

The discoveries.

The first favorite toy.

The family traditions.

The things that make Sterling, Sterling.

And what a gift it will be to look back on these first photographs and remember that his story was already unfolding in the most beautiful way.

Why Newborn Photography Matters More Than We Realize

There is a reason I believe newborn photographs are among the most meaningful photographs a family can invest in.

It isn't because every image needs to be perfect. It isn't because babies only stay little for a few weeks, although they do change remarkably fast.

It is because photographs become part of our family history.

They help us remember the details that our minds cannot hold onto forever. They give our children a way to see themselves through our eyes. They preserve the people we were when we first became their parents.

For Sterling, these photographs will one day be a reminder of the very beginning.

They will show him how little he was in his parents' arms. They will preserve the tiny features he inherited from mama and dad. They will capture the beginning of a family chapter filled with learning, growing, and discovering what life together looks like.

And woven through those photographs will be a story of generations: an uncle remembered, a papa honored, and a little boy whose name carries so much love.

That is what makes newborn photography so meaningful to me.

Sterling, Your Story Is Just Beginning

Sweet Sterling, you have already brought so much meaning, joy, and love into the lives of the people around you.

Your name honors someone who came before you. Your middle name connects you to your papa. Your arrival was quick, your hair was plentiful, and your tiny cheeks are already a perfect mix of the two people who love you most.

You have parents who are discovering just how strong they are together, who are learning new things every day, and who are excited to watch you become exactly who you are meant to be.

They know there will be challenges along the way. They know parenthood will continue to surprise them. They know that not every day will be easy.

But they also know how blessed they feel to be your parents.

And as you grow, I hope you always understand that your story is yours to write. You are surrounded by people who want to see you thrive, who will celebrate your accomplishments, and who will love you through every chapter.

You do not have to be anything other than yourself to make this world brighter.

Your story has only just begun, little one, and there is already so much love in every page.

Thank you to Sterling's wonderful family for allowing me to preserve this precious season of your lives. It is an honor to help tell your story and create photographs that your family can treasure for generations.

With love,
