As a Colorado wedding photographer and Colorado engagement photographer, there is nothing more magical than photographing love stories with the Rocky Mountains as the backdrop. This recent engagement session at Chautauqua Park in Boulder was everything I love about being a Northern Colorado photographer — wide open grasslands, dramatic mountain peaks, and a couple whose chemistry radiates in every single frame.
If you're searching for a wedding photographer in Northern Colorado, Greeley, Fort Collins, Boulder, or Denver, sessions like this are exactly why Colorado is one of the most breathtaking places to document your love story.
Brandon and Mackenzie’s story started long before their engagement photos in Boulder. The two originally knew each other in high school — not quite high school sweethearts, but close. Years later, thanks to Tinder (before Tinder was really Tinder), they matched again.
Both were intentionally looking for something real. And this? This was the real deal.
Mackenzie made the first move. During a date at Topgolf, she hugged Brandon from behind — and the rest is history. Sometimes love isn’t loud at first. Sometimes it’s simple, intentional, and built on genuine friendship.
As a Colorado engagement photographer, I always tell my couples: the best photos come from real connection. And these two? Effortless.
For Brandon here, he realized this was a forever thing when he was constantly thinking about Mackenzie. She was always on his mind.
For Mackenzie, it was when Brandon introduced her as his girlfriend. That word meant something. It signaled intention.
Their love deepened during one of the hardest seasons — Brandon’s time at Marine bootcamp. A memory that stands out to both of them is when Brandon chose a liberty day, rented a phone, and called Mackenzie. Before leaving, he memorized her phone number (because memorizing numbers isn’t easy in today’s tech world).
He had to stand still while talking — no walking in his uniform while on the phone per the military. Bad service was on his side and that meant carefully finding the right spot and holding still just to hear her voice.
Three months later, Mackenzie rushed through a crowd at family day to see him after graduation. If that isn’t a movie moment, I don’t know what is.
These are the kinds of stories I love capturing as a Colorado wedding photographer serving Northern Colorado and beyond.
Brandon originally planned to propose on their anniversary, but Mackenzie got sick. So he rescheduled for the following Monday. He took her back to Topgolf — a place meaningful to them. With help from her mom (and their sweet pup Benny), he planned the perfect moment. Benny wore a bandana with the big question.
Only… the bandana was put on wrong at first!
Brandon stayed on one knee just a little longer than planned while they fixed it. Mackenzie didn't even notice Brandon was on one knee and until she did, Tears. Laughter. Selfies.
And she said YES — joking that she might’ve been “too drunk for this” after two Topgolf buckets.
It was the perfect mix of heartfelt and hilariously them.
Their engagement session at Chautauqua Park showcased everything couples love about engagement photos in Boulder — golden grasslands, iconic Flatiron views, and sweeping Colorado skies. It was chilly and windy, but they embraced it. Brandon mentioned this was their first professional photo experience together — and that previous attempts with friends didn’t quite go as planned.
Mackenzie said: “It felt good. Everything was thought out and I got exactly what I asked for and more.”
As a Northern Colorado engagement photographer serving Greeley, Fort Collins, Boulder, and Denver, I prioritize creating a guided yet relaxed experience. You don’t have to lose your personality in your photos. You don’t have to be stiff or overly posed.
Their advice to other couples?
Have fun. Joke around. Be yourselves.
And you can clearly see that in every image.

Brandon loves Mackenzie’s sense of humor and her commitment. When she sets her mind to something, she perfects it — and that makes him proud.
Mackenzie loves his goofy smile and the way he looks at her. He still gets nervous around her. They share inside jokes, meme quotes, and random Vine references that make zero sense to anyone else — but complete sense to them. They can look at each other and know exactly what the other is thinking. As a Colorado wedding photographer, those quiet, in-between glances are my favorite moments to capture.
Brandon can’t wait to officially call her his wife and see her in her wedding dress.
Mackenzie is excited to watch Brandon’s face before the ceremony — and yes, the prime rib. (If you know, you know.)
They’re also looking forward to their honeymoon in Cabo and simply enjoying life together — officially husband and wife.
